Winkledor is a Chrome extension made by Twinkling Reality. It replaces the new tab page with a greeting, the time and an ambient sky that follows the time of day.
What the extension stores
Your display choices (greeting, clock format, the sky's character, daylight, motion, layout, weather) and, only if you type one, a name for the greeting. These are kept in your browser's local storage for the extension. They are never sent to us, and they are removed when you press Reset in Winkledor's settings or uninstall the extension.
What the extension collects
Nothing. It has no servers, contains no analytics or third-party code, and reads nothing from the pages you visit.
Permissions
None. Winkledor requests no browser permissions and no access to any website. The only thing it declares is that it replaces the new tab page.
Time of day and location
The sky follows your computer's clock and today's real sunrise and sunset. To know roughly where you are, Winkledor looks up your time zone in a list built into the extension and uses that zone's representative city (New York for US Eastern time, for example). This happens on your device; nothing is sent, and Winkledor never asks for your precise location.
Weather
Weather is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, Winkledor asks Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for current conditions at that same city, about once every half hour while you use it. The request contains only the city's coordinates: no name, no identifier. Open-Meteo's own privacy policy applies to it. The latest reading is kept on your device and deleted when you turn Weather off.
This website
This is a static site. It uses no cookies and no analytics and makes no third-party requests. Its sky is drawn in your browser from your device's clock. The host, Cloudflare Pages, may log standard request metadata as part of normal delivery.
Your data rights
Because nothing reaches us, there is nothing on our end to export, correct or delete. This holds wherever you live, including the EU and UK under the GDPR and California under the CCPA. If you contact us, we keep that conversation only as long as it takes to help, and will delete it on request.
Children
Winkledor is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date.
